OUR MISSION

The role of AEYB is to represent, empower and advocate for youth in the Albert-Eden area. We present these views to the Albert-Eden Local Board to better inform decisions they make for our community. We also run and support events and programmes that relate to our values, seek youth perspectives, and play an active and meaningful role in ensuring that the collective “voice” of youth in our community is heard and valued.

PAST EVENTS

CAREER COMPASS

our career compass event aimed to help young people explore different pathways in a relaxed environment. We had university students as speakers from a range of different areas including Law, Arts and Medicine. young people who attended the event were able to paint while having both one-on-one and group discussions with the mentors. This created a really friendly environment.

DEBATING GIVE-IT-A-GO

The debating event was very popular. We had experienced debaters giving mini seminars on how to debate and then there were a series of 2 impromptu debates. The aim of this event was to provide youth with public speaking skills, allow people to feel comfortable giving debating a go in a welcoming environment and to have fun! We provided silly props so that people could feel more comfortable speaking in front of their peers and adjudicator.

CAKE DECORATING

We began with a mental health bingo. In this there were squares such as “got 8 hours of sleep” and participants went around and talked to people who had done each thing. This was a good icebreaker activity whilst still keeping the mental health focus. Next, we had an individual cupcake decorating challenge. Afterwards we split the group into teams of 4-5 and gave them a cake each, which they decorated to the theme “Something that makes you smile”. The final part of the event

what does AEYB do?

We are a group of young people that organise engaging events throughout the year for youth, funded by the Albert-Eden local board. These events align with our values and are used as an opportunity to build connections amongst youth and bridge the gap between young people and the local board.
