On the left side of the room, we had 4 tables of varying sizes with different activities set up. We had fabric hearts, bookmarks, butterflies, and scrunchies on the first 2 tables. We also had zines on the third, and jewellery/bracelet making at the end table. On the opposite side of the hall, we had a table set up with food provided and the speaker playing music. In the corner, there was a large table with clothes that were available to be cut up and used for fabric, or for people to take home with them. People enjoyed chatting, creating various crafts, and were free to move from table to table once they were finished with one activity. The event ran smoothly from 1pm-3pm.
The purpose of this event was to give youth an opportunity to improve awareness of ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle textile waste and other everyday household items. The value of this was to make young people more aware of ways they can use different materials to create things for others. We believe that this project was a valuable experience because it managed to attract a wide range of youth who not only had the chance to create amazing crafts, but were able to donate them to children who would enjoy them as well. This event empowered youth and promoted the amazing work the AEYB does
